Bengkel Matematik @ OUM Perak bagi Semester Sept 2009

Pagi tadi telah berlangsungnya bengkel matematik untuk pelajar BBMP1103 semester Sept 2009 di OUM Perak. Bengkel ini telah dikendalikan oleh Pengarahnya sendiri iaitu Richard Ng dengan menggunakan model pengajaran Online Supplemental Instruction (OSI).

Seramai 9 orang pelajar telah hadir daripada sejumlah 30 orang yang disasarkan. Walaupun kehadiran amat menghampakan tetapi semangat yang ditunjukkan oleh pelajar yang hadir merupakan satu petanda baik.

Rata-rata pelajar yang hadir mempunyai profil yang hampir sama iaitu mereka kebanyakannya mendapat gred yang kurang baik pada peringkat SPM dan telah meningalkan sekolah lebih dari 6 tahun sebelum memasukki Open University Malaysia (OUM).

Dalam bengkel ii para pelajar telah didedahkan dengan matematik asas di mana mereka diajar operasi nombor serta aljebra. Pada akhir setiap sesi, pelajar dikehendaki melantik seorang wakil untuk tampil ke hadapan memberikan penerangan cara menjawa sesuatu soalan yang diberikan.

Kemuncak kepada bengkel ini ialah para pelajar diajar cara menggunakan perisian Microsoft Equation Editor untuk menaip simbol matematik. Setiap kumpulan dibekalkan dengan sebuah laptop. Bilangan pelajar yang kurang membolehkan semua pelajar berpeluang menggunakan Equation Editor secara Hands-on.

Pada akhir sesi bengkel ini, para peserta nampak lebih berkeyakinan. Mereka juga telah didedahkan dengan model pembelajaran OSI di mana semua peserta diingatkan untuk menjadi mentor kepada rakan-rakan lain yang perlukan bantuan mereka dalam matematik.

Bengkel ini yang bermula pada jam 8.30pg tamant pada jam 1.15tgh. Pelajar disediakan minimum dan makanan ringan oleh pihak OUM.

Bengkel Persediaan Matematik @ OUM Perak

Bengkel Persediaan Matematik untuk pelajar semester Sept 2009 yang mengambil subjek BBMP1103 (Matematik Pengurusan) dan SBMA1103 (Matematik Persediaan) akan diadakan seperti berikut:

Tarikh: 27 Sept, 2009 (Ahad)

Tempat: OUM Perak (Jln Lim Bo Seng)

Masa: 8.30pg - 12.30tgh

Fasilitator: Richard Ng

Bengkel ini bertujuan untuk membantu pelajar memahirkan diri dalam menggunakan perisian Equation Editor yakni sejenis perisian yang dapat membantu pelajar menaip simbol matematik supaya pelajar dapat menyediakan soalan tugasan serta menghantar soalan atau jawapan untuk dikongsikan dalam perbincangan atas talian.

Pelajar juga akan didedahkan dengan kaedah menjawab soalan matematik semasa peperiksaan nanti.

Oleh kerana tempat adalah terhad kepada 40 orang pelajar sahaja, sesiapa yang berminat bolehlah menempah tempat anda secara "first come first serve". Sila hubungi Puan Ilah atau En. Sharizal di talian 05-2546006 untuk membuat booking.

Tiada bayaran dikenakan. Walau bagaimanapun pelajar bolehlah menderma kepada tabung amal kami untuk kami hulurkan kepada rumah anak yatim yang terpilih semasa sambutan Hari Deparaya yang akan diadakan tidak lama lagi.

Exam Coaching Workshop for Math @ OUM Perak

On April 3, 2009, more than 1,000 OUM learners will be sitting for the BBMP 1103 Management Math final exam. As preparation for the final exam, workshops were being conducted this morning nation wide to assist learners in understanding the format of the exam and how to score in this paper.


At OUM Perak, 20 learners turned up for the workshop which was conducted by award winner Richard Ng. The workshop started at 10am and finished at 2.00pm. Learners were given sample exam questions to try out.




At the end of the workshop, learners were relieved that their anticipatory anxiety has reduced now that they have fully understood the preparation required for the exam. As the saying goes: "Lets do our best and God will do the rest".

Exam Preparation Workshop for BBMP 1103 students @ OUM Perak

The final exam for BBMP 1103 Management Mathematics subject will be held on Friday April 3, 2009 from 3.00pm to 5.10pm. To prepare students thoroughly for this paper which contributes 40% to overall score, a workshop will be held as follows:

Math Workshop @ OUM KL

OUM has organized another Math workshop for its learners who are taking the BBMP 1103 and SBMA 1103 courses at OUM Main Campus on Feb 21, 2009 from 8.3am to 1.30pm. The event was organized by the Counseling Unit of the Center For Student Management led by Prof. Dr. Latifah. Coordinating the program successfully was Normahliza who has done extremely well in ensuring the smooth running of the program.

The workshop was conducted by Richard Ng



The workshop started sharp at 8.30am and ended as expected at 1.30pm. Close to 50 participants from KL and also a learner Penang turned up to find out more about how they could improve on their math. The workshop was conducted by Richard Ng, the director of OUM Perak.

The workshop was based on the Online Supplemental Instruction (OSI) model which has won a silver medal recently at the AAOU 2008 International Conference in China. Participants were coached on understanding the logic of math and how to use the Equation Editor software to type mathematical symbols so that they can post any problems through the Learning Management System (LMS).

Participants were busy having discussion on how to solve the mathematical problems assigned to the group.

Participants were divided into 5 groups and each group was given a mathematical problem to solve. The team leader from each group was required to present their findings watched by other participants. This way all the participants will learn from each other.

Bengkel Pra-Tutorial Matematik @ OUM Perak

OUM Perak akan menjalankan satu bengkel pra-tutorial matematik sebagai persediaan awal untuk pelajar-pelajar yang bakal mengambil subjek SBMA 1103 Matematik Persediaan dan BBMP 1103 Matematik Pengurusan untuk semester Januari 2009.

Semua pelajar yang mengambil subjek tersebut di atas diwajibkan hadir. Ini adalah kerana dalam dua semester yang lepas telah terbukti bahawa bengkel ini telah banyak pelajar mengatasi berbagai masalah berkaitan dengan pembelajaran matematik atas talian.

Bengkel ini adalah sebahagian daripada model pengajaran matematik baru yang telah memenangi pingat perak di persidangan antarabangsa di Tian Jin, Cina anjuran Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU).

Exam Coaching Workshop for BBMP 1103

The exam coaching workshop for Management Mathematics was held on Nov 23 2008 at Open University Malaysia (OUM) Perak branch campus from 9am to 12.30pm. The workshop was conducted to assist learners in their revision and to chart a strategy towards attaining their desired goals in their final exam on Dec 16 2008.

The workshop was facilitated by the director of OUM Perak cum tutor, Richard Ng, who have many years of experience in coaching this subject. 23 learners from various parts of Perak turned up for the workshop. Learners were briefed on the final exam format and the topics to focus. The topics to focus are as follows:

Learners were given sample questions to try out and the facilitator went through the answers and the techniques of answering questions with them.

These group of learners are among the best that OUM Perak have had and in fact they are also part of a research being carried out by OUM. The research paper has won a Silver medal for OUM at the recent AAOU 2008 International Conference held in Tianjin, China.
